Welcome to Caherdaniel and Castecove, South West KerryLocated on the Southern coast of the Iveragh peninsula and set against the backdrop of spectacular scenery, and stunning views, Caherdaniel and Castlecove have much to offer the visitor.
You will find the tiny villages of Caherdaniel and Castlecove on the Ring of Kerry Road between Waterville and Sneem. Both villages are located on the shores of Derrynane Bay which gives it's name to the surrounding area. The bay is a renowned centre for all types of Watersports - swimming, diving, kayaking, canoeing, surfing, water-skiing, wakeboarding and of course, sailing. All available in the safe enclosed harbour of Derrynane. Other very popular activities available in the area include horse-riding, sea angling, golfing and hill walking. With activities for all ages, Derrynane is a perfect family holiday destination.
The area is rich in cultural history too with Derrynane House and National Park, home of Daniel O'Connell The Liberator (1775-1847), Staigue Fort at Castlecove, probably Ireland's finest example of a Stone Fort and of course, the Old Abbey.
Derrynane has much to offer the nature lover too - from natural rockpools and sandy coves to natterjack toads, migratory birds and wildflowers and the diverse landscape offers both gentle strolls and hiking trails - it will be your choice! Derrynane House has a very useful Nature Trail booklet for those who wish to really explore the National Park and surrounding area.
The stone fort of Caher (c 600 B.C) is what gave Caherdaniel it's name and this can be found on The Kerry Way famous walking trail which is to the north of the village.The Kerry Way is the longest and one of the most scenic hiking trails in Ireland and it's well worth exploring at least part of it. The trail is divided up into manageable sections and route maps are available to help you plan your walk.
